It will also improve access to digital public services in education and health, boost private sector engagement and economic growth, and promote transparency and efficiency in public services. Specific Objective: Access to education and learning for children and young people with disabilities is taken into account in the analysis and planning of technical and vocational education and training through improved practices of ministries and their partners in the eight West African countries covered by the program. The cocoa industry is a primary driver of deforestation, accounting for over 37% of forest loss in C6te d'Ivoire, particularly encroaching on protected forest areas, which has led to disputes over land use. Also, the cocoa value chain is marked by a significant asymmetry in value distribution, with smallholder farmers receiving only 6.6% of the final price of chocolate. The lack of proper infrastructure hampers the efficiency of cocoa production and the ability to connect with markets. In both Cote d'Ivoire and Guinea, the poor state of rural roads and lack of storage facilities significantly impact the quality and marketability of cocoa beans. The initiative with the collaboration of Save the Children will address the root causes of child labor in the supply chain, and enhancing food security.Through this contribution, the Italian Development Cooperation tasks Bioversity International of developing a high impact project in the field of cocoa in West Africa. L’industria del cacao è uno dei principali motori della deforestazione, responsabile di oltre il 37% della perdita di foreste in Costa d’Avorio, in particolare invadendo le aree forestali protette, che ha portato a controversie sull’uso del territorio. Inoltre, la catena del valore del cacao è caratterizzata da una significativa asimmetria nella distribuzione del valore, con i piccoli agricoltori che ricevono solo il 6,6% del prezzo finale del cioccolato. La mancanza di infrastrutture adeguate ostacola l’efficienza della produzione di cacao e la capacità di connettersi con i mercati. Sia in Costa d'Avorio che in Guinea, il cattivo stato delle strade rurali e la mancanza di strutture di stoccaggio influiscono in modo significativo sulla qualità e sulla commerciabilità delle fave di cacao. L’iniziativa, realizzata con la collaborazione di Save the Children, affronterà le cause profonde del lavoro minorile nella filiera e migliorerà la sicurezza alimentare. The objective is to enable staff to autonomously manage information flows and to develop governance strategies based on solid data. Effective management requires hydrogeological, geological, and geo chemical knowledge to assess the quality and quantity of resources, identify recharge and drainage areas, reconstruct circulation path ways, and analyze interactions between groundwater and surface wa ter. This information makes it possible to develop conceptual basin models, design monitoring systems, and prepare potential mathemat ical models. The key objectives include: technical support and capacity building for the collection, management, and analysis of hydrogeological data, as well as the promotion and strengthening of partnerships with univer sities, research centers, and international institutions (IAEA, UNESCO IHP, UNECE, IGRAC). The overall project objective is to maximise the impact of remittances and diaspora investments on rural development. The specific objectives are : 1) Ensure the availability of timely, accurate and reliable data on migrants and diaspora remittance/investment markets or available solutions to maximise their impact for public and private sector stakeholders in Senegal and Mali. 2) Replicate, develop and scale up intervention models that promote access to and use of inclusive financial services associated with money transfers and promote the investment of migrants’ financial resources in favour of relevant Sustainable Development Goals, particularly related to climate, food security, agricultural risk management, gender equality and empowerment, and youth empowerment and economic inclusion. 3) Contribute to strengthening policies and regulatory frameworks that foster cheaper, faster, safer and more inclusive remittances and investments, particularly for rural development. It will develop common and harmonized indicators, predictive models, monitoring networks, and digital tools for data management, alongside the creation of a permanent technical unit. The initiative enhances institutional and technical capacity, fosters regional cooperation, and involves local communities and the research sector, contributing to peace, security, and climate resilience in the region. The project directly contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals). The initiative aligns with priority sectors related to basin-level water resources management and institutional strengthening for environmental and climate governance. L’iniziativa intende rafforzare la cooperazione tra i paesi che condividono il bacino acquifero transfrontaliero tra Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia e Guinea, promuovendo una gestione equa, sostenibile e concertata delle risorse idriche sotterranee. Il progetto si propone di creare un sistema informativo condiviso che supporti le decisioni politiche con basi tecnico-scientifiche solide. Verranno sviluppati indicatori comuni e armonizzati, modelli previsionali, reti di monitoraggio e strumenti digitali per la gestione dei dati, accompagnati dalla creazione di un’unità tecnica permanente. L’iniziativa valorizza il rafforzamento istituzionale e tecnico, la cooperazione tra i paesi e il coinvolgimento delle comunità, del mondo della ricerca, contribuendo alla pace, alla sicurezza e alla resilienza climatica nella regione. In particular, the two specific objectives aim to (i) ensure an enabling environment for gender equality, human rights promotion and multi-sectoral prevention of gender-based violence in the cross-border areas between Senegal and The Gambia and (ii) strengthen the availability, use and quality of holistic services for victims of gender-based violence in the cross-border areas. The intervention strategy focuses on survivors and women and girls at risk of gender-based violence who, as services users must be treated with dignity, equality and respect and be empowered to make informed decisions; and on the active participation of the community, including men and boy, and all other actors involved in the cycle of prevention, care and reintegration of survivors of gender-based violence (GBV)/Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)/Child Marriage and harmful practices. In order to foster the behavioral change necessary to promote gender equality and the abandonment of harmful practices, the project will promote a multi-sectoral and multi-actor gender transformative approach. The methodology that will be implemented to achieve the objectives includes: a) advocacy and policy dialogue based on reliable statistical data; b) creation, collection and use of reliable statistical data and knowledge sharing;c) capacity-building of service providers; d) support for the provision of quality care services; e) partnership with research institutes, the private sector, local authorities and women's community organisations. L’intervento vuole contribuire all'eliminazione della violenza di genere (VBG), comprese le pratiche dannose (PD) nelle aree transfrontaliere tra Senegal e Gambia. The refinancing is necessary following unprecedented rainfall that has caused over one thousand confirmed deaths and hundreds of thousands of displaced people, creating a severe humanitarian emergency in the area that includes Mali, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Nigeria. To respond to the emergency, which risks exacerbating already fragile contexts, an emergency contribution is planned in response to the regional emergency appeal launched by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The system is based on the integration of local observations with meteorological and hydrological forecasts, through a risk information platform, an integrated information and communication system, flood risk mapping, local flood risk reduction plans and awareness/training actions. SLAPIS è un sistema integrato che mira a promuovere cambiamenti decisionali e comportamentali da reattivi a proattivi a diversi livelli, dalla comunità all'amministrazione, per la riduzione del rischio di inondazione nei Comuni prospicienti il fiume Sirba in Burkina Faso e Niger. Il sistema si basa sull'integrazione delle osservazioni locali con le previsioni meteorologiche e idrologiche, attraverso una piattaforma informativa sul rischio, un meccanismo integrato di informazione e comunicazione, la mappatura del rischio di inondazione, piani locali diriduzione del rischio di inondazione e azioni di sensibilizzazione e formazione.
