It is a country-based pooled fund (CBPF), which is a multi-donor humanitarian financing instrument managed by UNDP Multi Partner-Trust Fund that serves as the Administrative Agent of OCHA CAR, under the responsibility and leadership of the Humanitarian Coordinator (HC). The CAR HF has played a significant role in making more resources available for humanitarian activities prioritized under the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). Nutritional screening and malnutrition treatment programs will be implemented for children between 6 and 59 months of age and for pregnant and lactating women, with a specific emphasis on awareness and prevention. Food security activities, which are closely linked to nutrition, will include agricultural support initiatives aimed at promoting skills development and self-sufficiency in rural communities, with a strong focus on women in training. Adequate and sustainable access to food is crucial to preventing malnutrition and safeguarding the health of the most vulnerable populations. The integrated approach aims to strengthen the resilience of local communities and improve their capacity to respond to recurring crises and climate shocks. Specific attention will be paid to integrating a gender perspective into all stages of implementation, as well as to the challenges faced by people who have been forcibly displaced within the country. The strategic axes of the intervention include: 1) Ensuring the availability of drugs and medical supplies to address frequent stockouts. 2) Enhancing diagnosis: recognizing the importance of diagnostic accuracy, the project involves training cycles, procurement of new medical equipment, and improvement of laboratory services to ensure quality diagnoses for patients. 3) Providing training for healthcare personnel to enhance skills in a country with a shortage of qualified medical staff. International specialists will oversee the local staff and provide training sessions on neonatal care, maternal health, infection control, hygiene practices, infectious disease management, etc. 4) Preventing and monitoring hospital infections by ensuring hygiene in CHUPB environments through training sessions and enhanced hygiene protocols. 5) Promoting women's empowerment: empowering mothers and communities through sexual and reproductive health education, combined with increased awareness of neonatal care, is a key objective of the project. L’Iniziativa, dalla durata di 36 mesi, mira a contribuire al rafforzamento del sistema sanitario centrafricano, assicurando l’erogazione di cure materne, neonatali e pediatriche presso il Complexe Hospitalier Universitaire Pédiatrique de Bangui (CHUPB), unica struttura di riferimento pediatrico di secondo livello nel Paese. The primary objective is to improve access to primary and secondary health services, strengthening the capacity of public health facilities to respond effectively and sustainably to the needs of the population, with reference to nutrition and food security issues. Health activities will focus primarily on equitable and sustained access to primary health care and capacity building of health personnel. Nutritional screening and malnutrition treatment programmes will be implemented for children aged between 6 and 59 months and for pregnant and lactating women, with a specific emphasis on prevention. Food security activities, closely linked to nutrition, will focus on agricultural support initiatives, fostering the development of skills that improve the self-sufficiency of rural communities. Adequate access to food is indeed fundamental to preventing malnutrition and ensuring the health of the most vulnerable populations. The integrated approach will strengthen the resilience of communities and improve their ability to cope with recurring crises and climate shocks. Particular attention will be paid to the gender approach in the implementation of all promoted actions, as well as to taking adequate account of the specific challenges of forcibly displaced populations. The program also integrates key cross-cutting themes, including the protection of the most vulnerable groups, gender equality, and the protection and inclusion of persons with disabilities and children. L'Iniziativa si propone di affrontare le complesse crisi umanitarie attraverso un'azione integrata con un focus specifico su salute, nutrizione e sicurezza alimentare, rivolta principalmente alle fasce in condizione di maggiore rischio della popolazione, come bambini/e e sfollati. L’obiettivo primario è migliorare l'accesso ai servizi di salute primaria e secondaria, rafforzando la capacità delle strutture sanitarie pubbliche di rispondere in modo efficace e sostenibile alle esigenze della popolazione, con particolare riferimento alle problematiche legate alla nutrizione ed alla sicurezza alimentare. Le attività sanitarie si concentreranno principalmente sull'accesso equo e continuo alle cure sanitarie di base e sul potenziamento della capacità del personale sanitario. Saranno attuati programmi di screening nutrizionale e trattamento della malnutrizione per i bambini di età compresa tra i 6 e i 59 mesi e per le donne in gravidanza e allattamento, con un'enfasi specifica sulla prevenzione. Le attività di sicurezza alimentare, strettamente legate alla nutrizione, si concentreranno su iniziative di supporto agricolo, favorendo lo sviluppo di competenze che migliorino l'autosufficienza delle comunità rurali. Un adeguato accesso al cibo è infatti fondamentale per prevenire la malnutrizione e garantire la salute delle popolazioni più vulnerabili. L'approccio integrato rafforzerà la resilienza delle comunità e migliorerà la capacità di affrontare crisi ricorrenti e shock climatici. Una attenzione particolare verrà prestata all’approccio di genere nell’implementazione di tutte le azioni promosse, oltre a tenere in adeguata considerazione le sfide specifiche delle popolazioni in condizione di sfollamento forzato.
