So, WV increased its support to food production assistance activities mainly focusing on fishing kits that increase access to fish protein, short duration vegetables and early maturing crop varieties to produce quick wins for food availability. Soap, disinfectant and chlorine are supplied monthly, which can be adapted to higher stocks and less movements in case Covid19 worsens. 12,300 (6,396 female and 5,904 male) will be enabled to practice good hand-washing practices to protect themselves from infection. - 15 HCs and 2 hospitals will be equipped with PPE (including thermo-flash, medical clothing, respiratory protection) to protect medical personnel and patients from infection and enable to detect symptoms. - WV will train 48 religious leaders on WV’s Channels of Hope approach and form Community Hope Action Team (CHATs). Faith leaders will be trained on providing MHPSS through messages/phone calls addressing fears of the disease and secondary effects. 108 CHAT representatives will support faith leaders. - Local partners will support faith leaders in disseminating prevention messages and producing radio spots. The project will sign contracts with 14 radios (7 in North Kivu and 7 in South Kivu) to emit radio spots to reach 34,712 female and 32,041 male (total: 66,753) in Bunyakiri and 50,372 female and 42,508 male in Alimbongo and Lubero (total: 92,880) - Local partners will train 10 CHWs per HA (160 CHWs in total) to conduct door-to-door visits in the communities for prevention promotion and symptoms detection. 1 CHW covers 15 HH on average, i.e. 16 HA * 10 CHWs/HA * 15 HH/CHW * 6 persons/HH = 14,400 people (7,488 female and 6,912 male) - 30 posters with Covid19-messages will be hung up at frequented spots (health centers, pharmacies, junctions etc.) in each health area (total: 240 posters). Provision of food and complimentary food to the families with vulnerable children and other poor, vulnerable groups such as the elderly, People with Disability (PwD), lactating women; women-headed families in line with SPHERE standards NL-KVK-41179943-215537 World Vision Netherlands On 4 August 2020, a massive warehouse exploded in Beirut harbor, triggering a shockwave that damaged several major hospitals, numerous businesses and houses in the Greater Beirut area, leaving more than 300,000 people homeless and livelihoods threatened (UNOCHA). The explosion hits Lebanon as it faces a multi-faceted crisis, featuring economic contraction, increasing poverty, inflation and exposure to COVID-19. The pressure on already overwhelmed hospitals and social tensions have compounded needs among Lebanese people as well as refugees. The blast has directly affected the source of income of many households already hit by COVID-19 lockdown measures. Access to food is a concern as Lebanon is heavily dependent on imports from the port. WV and partner Dar Al Amal (DAA) aim to respond to immediate needs of most vulnerable girls, women, boys and men of host and refugee communities affected by the Beirut explosion through an integrated project. WV distributes in-kind food parcels to vulnerable households so that they are able to meet the Survival Minimum Expenditure Basket (SMEB). This is the preferred modality due to the current economic situation coupled with temporary unavailability of products in markets nearby affected HHs. Food parcels are designed in alignment with FS standards, covering most of the energy needs for HH of 5 members over 1 month. Each HH receives one parcel. Vulnerable HH have been pre-identified in districts affected by the blast in alignment with vulnerability criteria set by the FS sector. WV and DAA distribute personal hygiene kits to 1,000 HHs in order to protect affected HHs from COVID-19 spread and transmission, and reach 5,000 people through hygiene promotion and awareness raising, incl. prevention of COVID-19. The originally planned activity of water storage tanks distribution has been replaced by extra food parcels, as the needs for water trucking were minimal, as opposed to the needs for direct food assistance. WV and DAA support the psychological wellbeing of affected HHs, providing PFA, either face to face or remotely, to children and their caregivers affected by the explosion. CP/PSS activity sheets and PSS kits with age appropriate sessions and activities are distributed to ensure children receive appropriate psychosocial care. Caregivers and community groups receive CP and MHPSS messages and feedback on their progress through WhatsApp. After capacity-building, WV works along with DAA to provide remote PSS to caregivers through group calls, which are set up based on National and WV guidance note. Through coordination with other organizations, WV and DAA refer cases in need of specialized services and provide emergency cash assistance for transportation to these services. NL-KVK-41179943-215821 World Vision Netherlands The COVID-19 outbreak in South Sudan comes against the backdrop of an already dire humanitarian situation, since 7.5 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance (HNO, 2020). Tonj North (T.N), a county with a COVID Risk of 4,33/10, has to deal with inter-communal clashes on top of the COVID-19 thread. WASH: only 38% of the households in South Sudan reported having access to safe water. According to an assessment done in February 2020 in T.N 220 out of the 350 handpumps are non-functional due to the lack of spare parts and poor maintenance. Women and girls have to walk approximately 3km to the nearest water point and these sources are often crowded increasing the risk of being exposed to Covid-19. In addition, there is limited access to hand washing facilities both at household levels and at public places. Health: 56% of the population of South Sudan does not have access to primary health care services. Out of the 2.300 facilities more than 1.300 are non-functional (HNO, 2020). Available health centers are overcrowded, and are lacking both PPE, materials and supplies to treat patients. Protection: 7.5 million South Sudanese are in need of emergency assistance while 1.85 million of these (25%) require GBV support (HNO, 2020). Schools are closed since March 2020 and children are at increased risk of becoming a victim of GBV. On top of this over 95,000 in T.N are displaced as a result of the communal conflicts. Tonj North is one of the priority locations for GBV (HRP June ’20). World Vision (WV) in partnership with The Organisation for Children Harmony (TOCH) focuses on an integrated response to increase the access to safe water (rehabilitation of 14 water sources), distribution of soap, and hand washing facilities in schools and health facilities; increase the capacity of health workers’ access to necessary supplies and equipment to prevent the spread of COVID-19; and increase the capacity to deliver adequate SGBV and psychosocial support. Soap and handwashing facilities are being distributed among 8 schools (4800 children) and 4 Primary Health Care Centers (PHCC) with high patient volumes (1.200 patient visits per facility per month) in combination with hygiene promotion messages. In addition, 14 non-functional handpumps are being rehabilitated and all 16 technicians of T.N are being trained on maintenance. To enhance proper water management and also enforce the COVID-19 restrictions as opposed by the government, the water user committees are trained (126 people; >30% women). At the PHCC level the focus is on increasing the primary health consultation through engagement of Boma Health Workers (BHWs) linked to the 4 PHCCs. BHWs (80) will be trained on COVID-19 prevention, and is incentivized for referral of clients for curative services. The 4 PHCCs are being equipped to provide service delivery through employment of 2 clinical officers and 4 registered nurses. This increases the capacity of the PHCCs to treat patients. In addition, 60 health workers are equipped with PPE and trained on how to offer curative services during this COVID-19 pandemic. Four temporary shelters and 200 benches will be constructed at each of the PHCC to allow social distancing following the MoH guidelines. Two friendly spaces for women and children are constructed and volunteers are trained to provide protection prevention messages. The project’s social workers are guiding these women and children to engage in life skills activities and at the same time create awareness around forced marriage, child marriage and other SGBV issues and distribute PEP kits to survivors. Community action teams and volunteers receive training and support to conduct monitoring visits and prevention messaging (integrating info on COVID-19) in 5 payams in T.N to offer referral guidance to those in need. There is a case manager offering PSS in the friendly spaces. All project staff before deployment undergoes a training on Accountability to Affected Population (AAP), HR systems, PSEA, Code of Conduct and Do No Harm. In the Sahel, Nord, and Boucle du Mouhoun, out of 797 households covered, 623 have no water to wash their hands or to drink safely. This will be prioritized to ensure access to safe water is sustained and displacement or conflicts resulting from water scarcity minimised. The technology of water systems to be constructed will be determined by technical assessments although preference is for solar powered piped water networks, gravity fed piped networks and Reverse Osmosis (RO) networks targeting locations with salinity and presence of chemical properties that have affect water quality. WSH-I4:4: Conduct 35 water quality tests (3 per new system and 2 per rehabilitated system) for both rehabilitated and newly constructed water systems. Although famine was projected between April and June 2023 for rural communities in Baidoa and Burhakaba districts in Bay Region and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Baidoa town and Mogadishu, a scale up in humanitarian assistance, helped avert the famine. The Somalia Bay region joint response project implemented by World Vision with local partner PASOS, contributed to the improvement of food and nutritional security as well as provided access to safe water for household consumption and protection assistance. World Vision heeft 79 vaccinatielocaties voor COVID-19 ondersteund in organisatie en logistiek en met o.a. zeep en ontsmettingsmiddelen die 275.471 mensen ten goede kwamen, waarvan 40% vrouw. Tegelijkertijd werden in totaal 1.101 gezondheidswerkers ondersteund met persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen (PBM). Daarnaast heeft World Vision een grootschalige COVID-19 bewustwordingscampagne gevoerd in 9 verschillende districten van Nepal, waarbij in totaal 247.667 mensen werden bereikt, waarvan 50% vrouw. Deze campagne is gedaan in afstemming met de lokale gezondheidskantoren (op district en gemeentelijk niveau), door middel van onder andere het mobiliseren van lokale radio, krant, flyers en rondrijdende auto’s die via speakers boodschappen verspreiden. Verder werden 210 zuurstofcilinders, 18 zuurstofconcentrators, 10 bilevel-apparaten voor positieve luchtwegdruk (BIPAP), 3 koelkasten met ijsvoering, 2 autoclaven, 1 ziekenhuisbed en 1 noodgenerator geleverd aan verschillende gezondheidsinstellingen om ervoor te zorgen dat de faciliteiten zo goed mogelijk zijn uitgerust in de strijd tegen COVID-19. In totaal werden 27.523 antigeenkits gedistribueerd aan de provincieoverheid en verschillende lokale gezondheidsinstellingen. Dit alles heeft de capaciteit van de provincie en lokale overheid versterkt om COVID-19 zowel te voorkomen als te behandelen. The Joint Response provides Food Security activities in all health zones. Education is promoted through WASH facilities in schools and snacks provided during catch-up classes. Child-Friendly Spaces will be created for play opportunities for children. This is for a multi-sectoral response. The target group are the individuals affected by conflict. This includes, IDPs, returnees and host communities. In North Kivu the total number of beneficiaries directly benefiting from the joint response are 122.508, whilst in South Kivu this number is 118.586. Resulting in a total of 231.094 beneficiaries. Distributed items need to be culturally acceptable i.e. take into account local practice and expectations. Access: ratio (user/facility) of 1 toilet for a max. 20 people, distance < 50 metres from dwellings, or as locally agreed. Clean: regular cleaning and maintenance for public facilities.Dignified: Use of toilets respect cultural preference and is arranged by household(s) and/or segregated by sex. Unsafe facilities: unstable (unlined) pits with risk of collapse, pits accessible to vectors, pits contaminating water tables and poorly sited facilities which expose women and girls to attacks, especially at night. Functional facility: fully constructed, in working order and properly maintained, of a type and in a location acceptable to intended users, with hand washing facilities and anal cleansing material. Access: maximum distance to water point 500m, queuing time less than 15min, filling time maximum 3 min/20 litres or as locally agreed. Water access should be during the whole period of implementation unless action is mostly related to building the local water delivery capacity. Sufficient: covering basic needs, i.e. 7.5-15 l/p/d or as locally agreed. Safe: 1) low risk of faecal contamination, 2) No faecal coliforms detectable in any 100-ml sample, 3) For piped water supplies, or for all water supplies at times of risk or presence of diarrhoea epidemic, water is treated with a disinfectant to achieve free chlorine residual at the tap of 0.5 mg per litre and turbidity is below 5 NTU, 4) If for a short period, water which is contaminated chemically or radiologically is used, no (significant probability of) negative health effect is (likely to be) detected. Domestic use: drinking, cooking and personal hygiene (incl. laundry) Solid waste of all households of the settlements as well as commercial waste is removed stored safely and removed regularly with equipment and frequency according to standards (Sphere). Risk of solid waste pollution of environment is kept to a minimum. Medical waste is managed separately according to standards to minimize risk. System implies: planning and implementation in consultation with affected populations and relevant authorities, taking into account refuse type and quantity, incl. medical, burial, market etc; adequate disposal with minimum risk; attention to staff welfare. Hygiene promotion/awareness raising activities. Could be training, campaigns, radio broadcasts, flyers etc. Excludes the distribution of Hygiene/dignity kits that should be covered under WHS-I1. Quality implies but is not limited to: 1) a safe learning environment, 2) competent and well-trained teachers who are knowledgeable in the subject matter, 3) adequate materials for teaching and learning, 4) participatory methods of instruction and 5) reasonable class sizes. Especially in complex emergencies this should take into account a psycho-social dimension. Safe implies: people’s physical and personal wellbeing and integrity as well as to their freedom from physical, environmental, social, spiritual, political, emotional and psychological harm. Over the last 4 months, population movements intensified, particularly in Wadi Fira (79.178 refugees) and Sila (92.611 refugees) provinces (UNHCR, April 2024). With new refugees arriving daily, public services are overwhelmed and competition for scarce natural resources increases, pushing vulnerable families further into poverty, hunger and malnutrition.With 442,112 children suffering from acute malnutrition, the refugee crisis has pushed the Eastern provinces into IPC 4. According to WFP, 468.000 displaced people will not have access to food in the lean season (June to August) if no food is provided soon. In Sila, food support is particularly needed with 15,927 people in IPC3 and 23.941 in IPC4 (cadre harmonisée, 2024), recognizing the sinking funds available to WFP.Last month, 45% of the refugees were relocated from spontaneous arrival sites, of which 19.348 to Mile camp in Wadi Fira and 3.156 to Kerfi camp in Sila (UNHCR 2024). According to UNHCR, WASH is among the most pressing needs in Mile extension camp. The nearest water supply is at >5 km distance, showing the need for safe water provision. The affected region is home to 1.3 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), representing one-third of the total displaced population in Myanmar, further exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation. The impact of the earthquakes has been devastating across multiple regions. In Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city, media reports indicate that numerous buildings have crumbled, while in Naypyidaw, the capital, roads have buckled, further complicating relief operations. Power and communication outages have beenreported across affected areas, leaving millions without access to vital information. Roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure have been severely damaged or completely destroyed, hampering the delivery of humanitarian aid. In response to the crisis, authorities have declared a state of emergency across six regions,affecting more than 28 million people, including an estimated 6.7 million children.The earthquake struck a nation already in turmoil due to over four years of civil conflict triggered by the military coup in 2021. Right2Grow targets Institutionalizing Nutrition in the multi-sectoral initiative through Budget advocacy on signatory bureaus to allocate budget for nutrition (hire fully dedicated nutrition focal, for multi-sectoral M&E at regional and Woreda levels), Social accountability initiatives at the local level through the CVA model to enhance communities to have shared vision, participation, and leadership, and Establishment of Food and Nutrition Council initiative. Capacity assessments have been conducted in year 1. Key gaps appear in Lobby and advocacy capacity, and Budget Monitoring and Expenditure Tracking. Partners participated in internal launching and orientation workshops which enabled them to have a better understanding of the project objectives, deliverables, project governance, plans, and the roles of each partner. Consortium of Right2Grow decided to use only the first-and second tier partners who are directly contracted under R2G project and whose capacity are assessed. CSO capacities will be strengthened in lobbying and advocacy through specific training adapted to the needs of the actors. The L&A capacity building of the 7 CSOs directly contracted under Right2Grow only occurs at mid and endline, hence achievement 0. The aim is that decision makers jointly and effectively address undernutrition in a multi-sectoral, gender-sensitive and inclusive way, with ultimate goal of all children being well nourished and reaching their full potential. There are 4 major result areas the R2G consortium will focus on achieving: 1) Communities demand and invest in basic social services and adopt good nutrition and WASH practices, jointly addressing barriers with private sector partners; 2) Representative and empowered civil society organisations (CSOs) effectively navigate the civic space to advocate for leadership and good governance to prevent undernutrition; 3) National government and decentralised entities adopt and mainstream an integrated, multisectoral approach to undernutrition in policies, action plans and budget allocations; and 4) Donors and international development actors coordinate and collaborate along the humanitarian-development nexus to address the underlying determinants of undernutrition. Communities, community-based and civil society organizations, local private sector, government representatives and decision makers, and international development actors in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Mali, Uganda and South Sudan.
