The implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement between the Government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People¿s Liberation Front noted some progress, but also highlighted significant challenges that risk leading to escalating tensions. In this context, transitional justice and peace support play a significant importance. In April 2024, the Government of Ethiopia adopted a transitional justice policy, the implementation of which is essential to ensure lasting peace and reconciliation. In the Somali region, the Regional State Truth and Reconciliation Commission started a robust process to address past human rights violations. At the same time, there have been escalating tensions, alleged violations and abuses of human rights, and violence in various parts of the country. The tense dynamics resulting from the Memorandum of Understanding between Ethiopia and Somaliland, signed in January 2024, risk being an additional destabilizing factor.
