The logic of the initiative is based on the strengthened integration of NUS and agroecology in local agri-food systems, acting on three interconnected results: sustainable and resilient agricultural production through the promotion of NUS and agroecological practices, achieved through the documentation of traditional knowledge, scientific research, and capacity building. The promotion of a political-institutional environment favorable to agrobiodiversity, local seed systems, and agroecological systems. The support for markets and consumption by promoting NUS/agroecological value chains to increase consumer access to and trust in diverse and nutritious foods. Implemented in nine countries in Western, Eastern, and Southern Africa, the project targets three main groups (value chain actors, decision-makers/institutions, and academic institutions), promoting female and youth inclusivity, and involving a partnership of over forty African and European partners. The initiative aligns its objectives with continental and global frameworks (e.g., African Union's Agendas, EU Green Deal), positioning NUS as a driver of sustainable and inclusive development. The joint action builds on valuable lessons learned and is directly linked to the Sustainable Development Goal 5.3, which aims to end all harmful practices by 2030. The focus continues to be on countries with highest FGM prevalence, with the aim of shifting social norms in affected communities while working with governments to put in place viable national response systems. The Joint Programme on the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation has in the last 13 years been actively contributing to the accelerated elimination of FGM globally. Drawing on best practices and lessons learned from over a decade of programme implementation, the fourth phase of the Joint Programme has been developed to intensify efforts towards the elimination of FGM by 2030. The Phase IV of the Joint Programme prioritizes global movement building of allies working towards eliminating the practice of FGM as its strategic approach. Specific activities of this Phase are: 1. expand strategies for women’s and girls’ agency; 2. promote enabling family and community environments; 3. build and expand a global youth movement grounded in adolescent girls’ leadership; 4. strengthen governance to end FGM; 5. strengthen the capacity of rights holders and duty bearers; and 6. Bridge the gap between evidence generation and uptake of research to eliminate FGM. In this way, the project aims to promote sustainable investments in the African sports sector and support growth, job creation and inclusion of young people and women. The project also aims to expand over time to cover an increasing number of countries, based on the demand of interested partners and available resources, taking into account concrete opportunities for co-financing by other partners. This contribution is useful in achieving SDG 17, "Strengthen means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development." By leveraging the expertise of Fabbrica di San Pietro, knowledge from institutions in the four target countries and the capacity building efforts of ICCROM, the initiative will train craftspersons and artisans in traditional and modern techniques, preparing them to apply their skills effectively in maintenance and other complementary activities for the conservation of heritage sites, while also training others through the Training of Trainers multiplier effect. This collaborative effort aligns with the programmatic priorities set out by ICCROM and Italy’s Mattei Plan, focusing on education and training. It also contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 8 by promoting inclusive economic growth and youth employability, Sustainable Development Goal 5 by including women in craft traditions and Sustainable Development Goal 11 by making historic cities resilient and sustainable. The project emphasizes sustainability through enhanced skills development and knowledge transmission, as well as periodic maintenance strategies, reducing the long-term financial burden on institutions. It is expected that at least 540 craftspersons will be trained by the end of the three-year project, with revitalized and enhanced. The Program, which stems from high-level discussions within the framework of the Rome Process, particularly in the migration/security working group, is divided into three distinct components. Specifically, the initiative focuses on the use of voluntary and assisted return (for Libya and Tunisia) and first assistance (for Algeria) for irregular migrants wishing to return to their country of origin. The initiative also aims to develop sustainable reintegration options for these migrants. The main goal is to strengthen the Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR/VHR) systems already in place in the partner countries by utilizing specialized human resources and financial support to optimize existing procedures and increase the number of assisted voluntary returns. Additionally, it seeks to promote the adoption of a legal framework by the Algerian, Libyan, and Tunisian authorities to effectively manage migration flows in line with international conventions, based on principles of equality, inclusion, participation, and respect for the rule of law. The target of the initiative includes all actors involved in the management of migration flows, both at strategic and technical levels, with a focus on voluntary and assisted return and the reintegration of migrants into their countries of origin. Activities will be carried out through capacity-building interventions, such as workshops, conferences, seminars, and on-the-job training sessions. IOM will collaborate with DCPIF personnel to support local authorities and address any emerging challenges. The project will have a two-year duration. These training courses will be organized in two cycles for each target country, and each cycle will include two courses for each of the five thematic areas. Combined with additional Italian ODA funds (from Italian Climate Fund and MASE fund) as well as from other bilateral donors, the multidonor special fund aims to address various sectors, including renewable energy, water resource management, and sustainable transportation. AIDB will manage the fund, scouting, selecting and executing projects for financing.The AfDB (African Development Bank) is responsible for defining the project pipeline to be funded through the multi-donor special fund. Only projects that receive the "no-objection" approval from Italy can actually be co-funded with Italian resources. The AfDB is responsible for the execution, the implementation of any tender procedures, and the monitoring of the individual co-funded projects, informing Italy regularly and constantly. Transformation plans for AU and African countries' agriculture and food systems integrated with AU/African countries' climate adaptation and mitigation plans will be proposed. These plans will then be translated into priority investment lines, in synergy with infrastructure and trade support programs to build sustainable and resilient food systems in Africa. The project is supported in collaboration with the African Union Commission and Regional Economic Communities and other strategic partners such as ECDPM, FAO, and others-to promote policy and investment coherence around the climate-food nexus. The activities promoted by AUDA-NEPA address the need for action in the areas of food security, promoting ecologically sustainable agriculture, improving access to water and sustainable energy systems as well as fostering institutional and human capital development. il progetto si propone di sviluppare un coordinamento a livello continentale e un quadro di servizi per la cooperazione tecnica internazionale. Questi piani verranno poi tradotti in linee di investimento prioritarie, in sinergia con le infrastrutture e i programmi di sostegno al commercio per costruire sistemi alimentari sostenibili e resilienti in Africa.
